HOEVEN CONVENES MEETING WITH GOVERNOR, STATE LEADERS & NATIONAL PARK SERVICE DIRECTOR
ND Leaders Working to Maintain Herd of Wild Horses at TRNP
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Hoeven today convened a meeting with National Park Service (NPS) Director Charles Sams and North Dakota state leaders to outline concerns with NPS’s recently released plan to remove the wild horses at Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP). Hoeven pressed NPS to work with the state to find a solution to maintain a herd of horses at the park. The senator was joined via phone by Governor Doug Burgum, Attorney General Drew Wrigley, North Dakota Senate Majority Leader David Hogue, North Dakota Senate Minority Leader Kathy Hogan, North Dakota House Majority Leader Mike Lefor, North Dakota House Minority Leader Joshua Boschee, TRNP Superintendent Angie Richman and TRNP Deputy Superintendent Maureen McGee-Ballinger. Additionally, Hoeven has consulted with Senator Kevin Cramer, who is assisting in the effort.
“We have heard an outpouring of concerns from North Dakotans regarding the Park Service’s plan to remove the wild horses at Theodore Roosevelt National Park,” said Hoeven. “We convened this meeting to directly relay these concerns to the Park Service leadership and to press them to work with us to maintain a herd of wild horses at the park. We’ll continue working with Governor Burgum and our state’s leadership to find a solution to keep a herd of wild horses now and into the future.”

Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates is committed to advocating for a wild horse management plan and protection for these unique wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home! We are fighting for a management plan that is guided by science especially when it comes to decisions regarding the removal of horses and the administration of birth control. Many other wild horse management plans have proven to be successful with their science-based plans. We are asking for the same for this amazing group of wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home.
