Hello and Happy FRIDAY!
There have been some questions about our latest Call to Action.
Our North Dakota state legislators (currently the ND Senate) have entered Senate Concurrent Resolution SCR 4014. They will have in person hearings on February 9th. They have allotted 30 minutes for testimony. They do not expect any opposition.
If you live in North Dakota and want to come and watch the testimony, you are welcome to come to the Capitol building. I would NOT expect to testify since they are only allowing 30 minutes.
This resolution is for BOTH the wild horses in the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the longhorn cattle in the North Unit of the park. If you do not see the horses mentioned, it is just a matter of a space issue. If you click the overview tab, it will show you the reason for the resolution.
Our legislators want to hear what you have to say – so PLEASE send your comment to them online. You need to upload a pdf file to them to comment.
What should you comment? This one is much easier than TRNP’s comment period. You can simply ask “please pass SCR 4014″ Share your personal story. If you have scientific/historical/cultural/policy or any other information to share, please do. Just know this is very different than the park’s comment period in that SCIENTIFIC/FACTUAL data it is not a requirement. ALL comments will be recorded in the testimony for this resolution. THAT is the important part!
Our ND legislators are in session right now and they have a full plate this legislative season. THANK YOU to everyone who called when we needed to get their attention for the resolution! You did a GREAT job – here we are with SCR 4014! Please DO NOT call our ND legislators now. They expect this resolution to pass quite easily, if not unanimously. They have already shown that they support our advocacy work. Once this passes the ND Senate, it will move to the ND House. We will keep you posted on the progression of this resolution.
You can enter your comment letter here: https://ndlegis.gov/assembly/68-2023/regular/bill-hearings/bh4014.html?bill_year=2023&bill_number=4014
Also, please remember that GRATITUDE is just as important as the rest of our advocacy work. We have A LOT of BIG WINS to celebrate this week. Make sure you thank our North Dakota legislators. We made it easy, and you are welcome to customize your own email. https://www.mobilize.us/chwha/event/549484/
Also, the thank you letters keep the plight of our wild horses in the forefront. THIS IS NOT OVER!
As great as this week has been, our work here is NOT done until these horses have a solid management plan and we know they are safe within Theodore Roosevelt National Park for generations to come.
One of our state senators gave me a message yesterday that I will pass on to all of you – DON’T LET UP! KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!
Yes sir, Senator! We intend to do just that!
Thank you for your support and have a great weekend!
Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates is committed to advocating for a wild horse management plan and protection for these unique wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home! We are fighting for a management plan that is guided by science especially when it comes to decisions regarding the removal of horses and the administration of birth control. Many other wild horse management plans have proven to be successful with their science-based plans. We are asking for the same for this amazing group of wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home.
