Why We Need Congressman Armstrong’s Support

As we have discussed, support for the wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park has grown over the last couple of months since the park announced their plans to eliminate the ENTIRE herd of horses from the park.

ND Governor Doug Burgum has come to their defense.

The North Dakota state legislators have come to their defense.

The United Tribes of North Dakota have come to their defense.

Federally elected senators: Senator Cramer and Senator Hoeven,  have come to their defense.

The list goes on and on.

And yet, we still have ONE very important person who has NOT changed his position: ND Congressman Kelly Armstrong.

We have been calling and/or emailing Congressman Armstrong’s office every week asking if he has changed his position and if we can count on his support.

Every week, it is the same answer: there is nothing to update and my comments and questions will be noted to the congressman.

His office is one of the meetings I have set up when we are in Washington DC for the Save Our Wild Horses Conference in April.  We hoping he changes his mind well before that!

WHY is Congressman Armstrong’s support important in light of support coming from so many others?

Here is an email response we received from a member of congress in another state that serves on the Natural Resources committee:

“Good morning, Chris,

Thanks for the update. I’m glad to know there is political will within North Dakota to keep the horses at TRNP.

I can talk with Natural Resources Committee staff about a bill to include protections for this herd, but without support from Rep. Armstrong, I suspect it will be especially difficult to move legislation in the House this year.”

We can’t ask federal legislators in other states to help North Dakota’s ONLY wild horse herd when our own congressman won’t help them.

Has Congressman Armstrong heard from you?  We made contacting his office easy in one of our latest “Calls to Action”: https://secure.everyaction.com/Rg-lK-HiAkSz6nxuYsiKmw2

You DO NOT have to be a North Dakota resident to email Congressman Armstrong.

Our North Dakota state legislators have passed Senate Concurrent Resolution SCR 4014 UNANIMOUSLY through the ND Senate.   Testimony will be heard next week in the ND House.  We have been asking everyone to send us your comments for the ND House.  We will deliver them in person when we testify next week!  We will also take all of the comments collected and send them to Congressman Armstrong!

Your comment can be as simple as “Please pass SCR 4014” or “Please keep the wild horses in TRNP!” or it can be as long and as detailed as you would like!

You can send us your comments here: https://secure.everyaction.com/UjcKwEYRSkO-TDc6OfAXMQ2

Lastly, TODAY is the LAST day to order your “Fighting for the Spirit of the Badlands” gear!  100% Of the profits from this fundraiser goes to support our advocacy work! You can grab yours here: https://savetrnphorses.itemorder.com/shop/home/

Thank you for your support and have a GREAT day!

Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates is committed to advocating for a wild horse management plan and protection for these unique wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home!  We are fighting for a management plan that is guided by science especially when it comes to decisions regarding the removal of horses and the administration of birth control.  Many other wild horse management plans have proven to be successful with their science-based plans.  We are asking for the same for this amazing group of wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home.
