Horse Talk: Coffee with Castle

This event has ended. We will post the recording soon! Dr. McLaughlin retired as Curator of North American Ethnography at Harvard’s Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology for 25 years where she collaborated with Native people on cultural heritage collections. A social anthropologist, her research focused on the historic and contemporary west. She has conducted extensive fieldwork on Native American ranching, agrarian economics, Native American arts and art markets, and the cultural history of wild horses. She is also a lifelong horsewoman.  Castle worked for the National Park Service as an interpretive ranger at Knife River Indian Villages (ND) and at Mesa Verde National Park (Colorado) 1986-1990).  Dr. McLaughlin is also the author of The History and Status of the Wild Horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The report was based on a three-year research project she conducted for the National Park Service that was submitted  in December 1989. Her research has been referenced countless times since Theodore Roosevelt National Park announced their plans to eliminate the ENTIRE herd of horses from the park!  We are excited for this opportunity to speak with Dr. McLaughlin!
