Christine Kman, President & Co-Founder
Christine received a bachelor’s degree from DePaul University in Environmental Journalism. She moved from Illinois to Southwestern North Dakota in 2016 and immediately fell in love with the
wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park (TRNP) home. As she continued to learn about the wild horses and their current management, she became concerned that management practices being carried out by the park were harming not helping the herd.
In 2021, Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates (CHWHA) was formed to fight for proper management of this herd. Chris has been fighting tirelessly, especially between 2022 and 2024 when the park was
working to eradicate the entire herd of horses from the park. During those two years, Chris made several key contacts and continues to speak freely with local and national media to help raise awareness and educate the public on the current status of the wild horses of TRNP.
Through her efforts, CHWHA realized a 450% increase in followers from 2022 to 2023. Her leadership helped unite people from all across the globe who joined together to work to save the TRNP wild horses.
Gary Kman, Vice President & Co-Founder
Gary moved to Southwestern North Dakota with his wife, Christine, in 2016. He has been documenting wild horses and became concerned about management practices that seemed to be leading to the eventual elimination of the herd.
In 2021, he joined Christine and officially formed CHWHA to ensure that a genetically viable herd of wild horses remains in TRNP for future generations to enjoy the same way we do today. Gary has been fighting alongside his wife, and even more so between 2022 and 2024 when the park announced their plans to eliminate the horses.
Gary continues to be the main person in CHWHA documenting and
photographing the horses on a regular basis. He also speaks regularly to the press, the local community of Medora, and visitors to the town informing them about the current status of CHWHA’s fight and how they can help.
Janice Waisnor
Janice moved to Southwestern North Dakota in 2020 and immediately fell in love with the wild horses of TRNP. After questioning current management practices, she started working with CHWHA to fight for the wild horses that call the park home. Janice has been instrumental in leading fundraising efforts and getting the community involved in CHWHA’s Calls to Action and
fundraising events.
Ginny Goyer
Ginny has a history of volunteering with nonprofit organizations, most recently as a handler for Lutheran Church Charities Comfort Dogs. Ginny believes that the horses of TRNP are more than just animals but can also be a bridge to bring comfort to all human’s youngsters and oldsters alike.
Ginny has also been instrumental in helping CHWHA grow over the years. Her knowledge of different nonprofit practices and policies has helped shape CHWHA’s mission statement and goals.
Erica Adams
Erica is a long-time follower of the wild horses of TRNP. She also volunteers for another small wild horse rescue. In both organizations, Erica helps get information to our followers through
our social media channels. She engages with and answers our followers and supports in fundraising, action alerts, awareness for CHWHA.
Volunteers do not necessarily have the time. They have the heart.
The progress we’ve made would not be possible without the dedication of our passionate volunteers.
