Recap

Hello and Happy Tuesday to everyone!

Every week seems to have its moments, but this past week was one for the books!

In case you missed our social media posts, we have a few important updates to share with you.

We were able to meet personally with North Dakota’s gubernatorial republican candidates Tammy Miller and Kelly Armstrong during our travels and meetings this past week.  We expressed concerns with both of them over keeping the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park wild and free.  We also expressed concerns about whether either of them would provide the same level of support that Governor Burgum has.  Both candidates said they ABSOLUTELY want the horses to stay in the park and would offer the same support as Governor Burgum.

That is good news as both candidates will be ramping up their campaigning.  We will know which is the republican nominee in June.  Stay tuned!

This is not an endorsement of either candidate.  Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates believe that this is an important issue to people in North Dakota and now is the time to let the candidates know.  We are happy to hear that we can continue to count on the support from North Dakota’s Governor’s office no matter which candidate wins the election!

We also had the pleasure of spending some time with Jon Eagle from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.  He shared his knowledge of horses, history, culture, and language with a group of people at the United Tribes Technical College last Saturday.

I was happy to have a few moments to speak with him about the TRNP wild horses and Standing Rock’s position.  He let me know that a resolution was drafted, passed, and sent to the park from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe asking that the horses be allowed to stay.

Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates is also not the only group excluded from the list of “Organizations Represented in Correspondences” in the Park’s Public Comment Summary Report.  The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe was also excluded from the list.

We have asked for copies of both their resolution and their comment letter.  We will let you know if they are able to release them to us.
