We have a time sensitive Call to Action for you today.  I apologize that this got lost in the hecticness of the last few weeks!

We need you to do this action TODAY!

If you remember, when the State of North Dakota was considering the resolution asking Theodore Roosvelt National Park to allow the horses to stay, part of the process included public testimony. 

That action is mirrored on a federal level too!

We are in appropriations season and the committees are reviewing budgets for the next fiscal year.  Note: The BLM is requesting $15 MILLION dollars to permanently sterilize our wild horses and burros!

We need everyone TODAY to send an email to the US House Appropriations Committee at in.approp@mail.house.gov please add “Written Testimony” in the subject line.  We also need everyone to send the same letter to the US Senate at int@appro.senate.gov with “FY25 Int OWT” in the subject line.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to you today on behalf of Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates and our followers to request that the committee refuse the budget increase being proposed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for their Wild Horse & Burro Program.

Our organization is writing to you today to ask for an immediate moratorium on all wild horse and burro roundups until Congress can investigate the Bureau of Land Management’s lack of transparency with the American public and failed management of the Wild Horse and Burro Program.

The BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program is damaged and in need of an overhaul.  The agency seems determined to eliminate wild horses and burros from the western range.  This is seen clearly with their $15 million dollar request to fund the permanent sterilization of our wild horses and burros on the public lands that were designated for them through the Wild and Free Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971.

Additionally, the agency’s lack of transparency and refusal to work with the public are also cause for concern as the BLM continues with their plans to eradicate wild horses and burros across the west at the expense of the tax paying public.

Further, the BLM currently has over 60,000 wild horses and burros in disgraceful holding pens being funded by the taxpaying public.  They should not be allowed to add anymore horses to government holding until they overhaul their dysfunctional program.  The agency also needs to answer to their skewed population numbers and unjustified ‘Appropriate Management Level’s’ (AML).

Until the agency starts the process, a much-needed restructuring of their wild horse and burro program, any additional requests for funding should be denied. Especially for the continued large-scale removals, like the North Lander Herd Management Area in Wyoming on July 1, 2024, and permanent sterilization of horses returned to the range.
