Hello and Happy Tuesday to everyone!

We hope that you have been taking advantage of the vast knowledge being shared in our 2nd Annual Wild Horse & Burro Virtual Summit!  We had more great presentations this past weekend and more planned this weekend starting this Friday (1/23)!  You can view the current schedule and sign up on our website here: https://chwha.org/2026-wild-horse-summit/

We also want to apologize again to anyone who signed up for Grace Kuhn’s presentation on Monday.  Grace had a family emergency and had to cancel at the last minute.  If we cannot get her rescheduled during the summit, we will do an individual “Horse Talk” with her when she is able to reschedule.

For those of you who asked, we did reach out to Erik Molvar and we are working with him on setting up a Q&A for you on purchasing land leases!  We will let you know when we have that scheduled.

We have added a few more presentations over the last week – in case you missed them:

Jon Eagle Sr.’s presentation has been rescheduled for THIS SATURDAY (1/24) at 10 am mountain time.  If you signed up for his original presentation, you do not need to sign up again.

Sunday 1/25 we have three great presentations:
NOON – Melissa Thompson (Fish & Wildlife Services) & Blake McCann (National Park Service)Population genomics provide insight into ancestral relationships and diversity of the feral horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park
2pm – North Dakota Senator Josh BoscheeHow to work with your state legislators
4 pm – Regina Jordan  – Equine Scientist – Vision To Connect

We also apologize that Janelle Ghiorso had to cancel her presentation on 1/31.   We also have two other great presentations scheduled for that Saturday:

2 pm – Stephanie Milton & Julie Nation – Lily’s Wild Heart, IncHow Being on the Path to Becoming a Wild Horse Advocate Led to Positive Reinforcement
4 pm – Diana McPherson – PhotographerPhotographing Wild Horses: For Art, Conservation, and Cataloguing

Our last day of the summit (Sunday – 2/1) is packed with great presentations!

10am –Anouchka KhazizovThe Nokota Experience
NOON – The Path Forward and the Path to Project 2025 – panel discussion
3 pm – Congresswoman Dina Titus
4 pm – Closing Thoughts – A time for an open discussion to reflect on what we learned during the Summit, how we can move forward, and for you to share your thoughts with us!

As always, all recordings of the presentations either already are or will be available on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ChasingHorsesWildHorseAd-vj8hm

We have not had any issues, but I do want to take a moment to remind everyone that we do ask that everyone be respectful to our presenters, even if you do not agree with what they are saying or what their position may have been in the past.  We have a presentation this weekend that will discuss fertility control, which we know can be a hot issue for advocates.

We also are happy to have representatives from Theodore Roosevelt National Park joining us this weekend!

We had a great conversation with TRNP’s Chief of Resource Management, Blake McCann last week.  We know that many of you have vocalized the need for Blake to be replaced over the years.  CHWHA has always said it did not matter who was sitting in Blake’s chair, what mattered was the policy that was in place.  Blake is an employee of the National Park Service and was following their past policy, which has been confirmed to us by NPS personnel, that was to eliminate the wild horses from the park.

That policy direction ended in April of 2024. Now, especially with pending federal legislation to protect these historic wild horses, the park’s policy regarding these iconic animals has to be one of inclusion and viable management.

The park also has a new superintendent we have been working hard to form a solid and collaborative relationship with.  Superintendent Daniels has promised that she is committed to a positive path forward with our organization.  In my conversation with her a few weeks ago, she also noted that Blake has also embraced this new policy of inclusion regarding the horses.

Our request is that you continue to give these presenters the same courtesy and respect you have to everyone else during this summit.

Giving Hearts Day is fast approaching!  Did you know that Early Giving has started?!  That means that you do not have to wait until February 12th to make your Giving Hearts Day donation to Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates! Donations can be made now through February 12th!  Donations must be made through the Giving Hearts Day website here: https://app.givingheartsday.org/#/charity/1669

You can also send us your check or money order.  They must be received by February 12th to count toward our Giving Hearts Day goal.  Checks can be mailed to us at:

One the legislative front, we are continuing to have meetings with members of Congress and our advocate partners to discuss S1377 and the amendments we are seeking.  We will update you when we have any news on movement of this bill.

We hope to see you at the summit this weekend!  This has been an amazing event, and we are thankful to all the presenters and participants for making it such a huge success! We especially hope you will join us for our Closing Thoughts presentation on 2/1 at 4 pm Mountain time.  This is where everyone’s videos will be on and mics will be unmuted so we can all have a discussion about how to make the 3rd annual summit better in 2027, answer any last minute questions, and have an open discussion on wild horse and burro advocacy.

Thank you again for your support and have a great week!
