Hello and Happy Friday!
As we mentioned yesterday, our board has been discussing how to keep engagement up while we wait for Theodore Roosevelt National Park to let us know their decision regarding the future management of the 200 wild horses that call the Park home.
One of the things we have decided to do is to introduce (or in some cases re-introduce) everyone to the amazing horses that we are fighting for. This will include photos and videos along with a story about the band/horses we are highlighting. Our goal is to do this at least once a week. As always, those plans are subject to change depending on where our focus is needed.
We thought we would start with this fan favorite: 2014 Stallion Nicols!
The idea for this new series came to me as we sat with his band on Christmas Day!

Nicols is one handsome stallion and has captured the hearts of many followers! You can view our video of Nicols and his band on our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/X1etfaps83c
Nicols was born in 2014 to Mare Shale and the late, great Stallion Gray Ghost.

When we met Nicols in 2016, he and his mom had recently joined Stallion Teton’s band. Teton had to work pretty hard to kick Nicols out of the band. When Teton was FINALLY successful in 2017, Mare Shale went with her son!
Shale was one of the mares that was being treated with GonaCon and at the time, Nicols was her “baby”.
The two ended up with Shale’s brother, Stallion Cloud and his band for a short time. Cloud eventually was able to kick Nicols out of the band.
Ironically, when Cloud lost his band in 2019, he and Nicols became bachelor buddies for a while.
In 2021, Nicols started literally hanging out with Teton’s band, as if he was just another member of the band. Teton would occasionally chase him off, but we believe because of the growing bachelors in the park, he allowed Nicols to stay close. Eventually Nicols’ persistence paid off. Teton gifted him with his daughters that were old enough to leave the band.
Today Nicols’ band consists of the following:
2019 Mare Archer (Teeppee x Teton)
2020 Mare Bee (Indian Paint Brush x Teton)
2020 Mare Tontee (Teepee x Teton)
2020 Mare Berkleigh (Goblin x Teton)
2022 Filly Dreamer (Bee x sire unknown)
2023 Filly Tawney (Tontee x Nicols)
Nicols is usually found between the Park entrance and the Peaceful Valley Ranch. He is usually not too far from Teton. Last week we found a few bachelors calling out to him and his band. They promise to keep things interesting in the Park and time will tell how Nicols fares against them!
As always – stay tuned!
We hope you enjoyed this look at Stallion Nicols and his band! Be sure to head over to our Youtube channel to check out the video from last week.
Thank you for your support and have a SAFE and wonderful weekend!
