Hello and Happy Tuesday to everyone!
Have you seen the latest article out about the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park?
As you know the Park plans to eliminate ALL 200 wild horses from the only home they have ever known.
We had the honor of meeting with Michael Standaert from the North Dakota News Cooperative a few weeks ago. He has been following the story and asked us what angle had NOT been covered yet.
We suggested the potential economic impact if the horses are removed.
We explained that there is a lot of speculation around this, but why not go out and talk to the business owners in Medora and see what they have to say! We gave Michael some contact information for some business owners in Medora that we knew would be willing to talk to him.
Michael did just that in a well written piece that includes comments from local business owners, ND Tourism Director Sara Otte Coleman, Governor Burgum’s office, Senator Hoeven’s office, The Medora Foundation – and more!
New Calls to Action around this article:
- Share the article far and wide! THIS is how we continue to get more local and national – AND INTERNATIONAL attention: https://www.thedickinsonpress.com/news/north-dakota/medora-businesses-statewide-tourism-could-suffer-without-wild-horses?fbclid=IwAR3_0JxHvjiqPbK-Po201dNQ9R7EeHonr2woeV0KFnGsRDE5PoJctjqIq2w
- Email those “powers that be” show them we are not stopping! Make sure they have seen the latest news! Superintendent Angie Richman: Angie_Richman@nps.gov NPS Regional Director Bert Frost: Bert_Frost@nps.gov NPS National Director Sams: charles_sams@nps.gov Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland: exsec@ios.doi.gov (you may have to copy and paste these into your email!)
- Write a letter to the editor to the Dickinson Press: jmiller@thedickinsonpress.com You can thank him for continuing the coverage. You can write about how this fight is not over. Make sure your letter is factually correct.
- Send Michael an email thanking him for his coverage of this story: michael@newscoopnd.org We have talked with Michael about possible other stories to help keep the horses in the news! Let him know we appreciate his support!
As we mentioned in yesterday’s blog, we have a VERY long year ahead of us as we wait for things to get sorted out on the Park’s final decision. We ALL need to do what we can to keep these horses in the spotlight. We need to remind the public that this is far from over and that the freedom of 200 wild horses is at stake!
Also – did you note Superintendent Richman’s ONLY response to Michael:
“We are also separately and concurrently assessing the applicability of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act,” Richman said in an emailed response, adding that decisions will not be made until all those processes are complete.
See yesterday’s blog for more on this! We told you!!! – Section 106 is going to be a little bit of a problem for the Park!
Thank you for your support and thank you in advance for answering these Calls to Action.
Every
Little
Thing
Matters!!!
Have a great day and stay warm!
