Hello and Happy Tuesday to everyone!
My friend Barbara from ECI had a book suggestion for me: Wild Horse Annie: Velma Johnson and Her Fight to Save the Mustang by Alan J. Kania. I am just at the start of the book, but my highlighter has been busy!
Like for this quote from Velma Johnson: “Although I had heard that airplanes were being used to capture mustangs, like so many of us do when something don’t touch our lives directly, I pretended it didn’t concern me. But one morning in the year 1950, my own apathetic attitude was jarred into acute awareness.”
If you are reading this blog, I am hoping that your once “apathetic attitude” has now been jarred into the same “acute awareness”.
Our primary fight here is for the wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home. Many people have joined our fight because they understand that IF The National Park Service (NPS) is allowed to remove 200 wild horses from the boundaries of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, then no wild horse herds are safe.
Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates has been blessed to have so many people reaching out to help in whatever ways they can. They also ask how we have accomplished the things we have. We are working to replicate some of the things that have worked on a national scale.
If you are ready to turn your “Apathetic Attitude” into “Acute Awareness” AND ACTION, WE NEED YOUR HELP! America’s wild horses need your help!
Heather Hellyer from Save Our Wild Horses has become a friend of mine over this last year. While she is also “new” to wild horse advocacy, her knowledge, insight and love of our wild horses is inspiring. This is especially true when we are talking about a topic that at one time didn’t touch her life directly that now has become something that she is has dedicated herself to as we continue searching for NEW ways to look at a very old problem.
THAT is what we have been talking about. THAT is what we are trying to do now. We have a couple ideas that we have shared and a few more that are waiting for a “timelier” introduction.
Heather and I work well together, but we can’t do this ourselves.
Velma Johnson didn’t accomplish everything she did by herself.
We have something that Wild Horse Annie didn’t – modern technology that allows us to very quickly get our messages out to the masses!
This is something that truly boggles my mind! WHY aren’t we moving the needle on humane treatment of wild horses and burros?!
If you too have been moved into the “Acute Awareness” phase of your wild horse advocacy?
If you answered yes, then we need your help!
- We are looking for AT LEAST 50 people to join us in Washington, DC to protest in front of the Department of the Interior, The White House and The National Mall. We also want each of you to set up appointments with your federal legislators. We will help with materials you can hand out and conversations, but WE NEED YOU IN WASHINGTON DC 5/6-9/24! If you can join us, please sign up here: https://secure.everyaction.com/coCr5WeqDkCUlXPoDYHTCA2 If you can’t join us, please share the information! Heather created the graphic at the bottom of this post that you can easily share on social media.
- We are gearing up for some postcard campaigns! Can you help? We are looking for as many people as possible to let us send you 50-100 postcards that you can send to targeted members of Congress as we create NEW Calls to Action. If you can help, please sign up here: https://secure.everyaction.com/K1X-3RVbak6DIa-2Csc-ZA2
Sharing is a GREAT way to help! Be sure to share this blog and the information.
There are literally MILLIONS of wild horse advocates out there – all equally upset with the inhumane treatment of our wild horses and burros. It is time to get rid of our “Apathetic Attitudes”! Wild horses and burros everywhere are counting on us to be their voice!
Thank you for your support and have a GREAT day!
