Giving Tuesday is fast approaching! Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates (CHWHA) has secured $4,000 in matching funds. This means that this Giving Tuesday every $1 donated to us, up to $4,000, will automatically be DOUBLED!!

Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates has been leading the fight to save the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park since the park announced their plans to eliminate this herd in December of 2022.

Our hard work paid off! In April of 2023, the park announced that they would be abandoning their plans to remove all of the horses from the boundaries of the park.

CHWHA knows that the horses are still not safe! Wild horses managed by the National Park Service are not protected under the Wild Horse & Burro Act. Their management is left to the whims of the current park management.

In October of this year, the park was back again with threats of removal and permanent sterilization of all the horses. CHWHA led the two-week campaign to put a stop to the parks dangerous plans for this herd. Working with our state and federal legislators, we were able to stop the removal of ANY horses and stop the park from hand injecting EVERY mare with the birth control drug, GonaCon.

15 mares did have tracking collars put on and CHWHA is working with the National Park Service and our federal legislators to have them removed.

In November of this year, CHWHA travelled to Washington DC to meet with Senator Hoeven’s office and Deputy Director Lands from the National Park Service.

CHWHA also has legislation being reviewed by North Dakota’s legislative council for the upcoming 2025 session.

Making sure this historic herd of wild horses always remains IN Theodore Roosevelt National Park for future generations to enjoy just as we do today is CHWHA’s #1 mission at this time. Federal legislation is the only way to ensure that a healthy and viable herd always remains within the boundaries of the park.
