Hello and Happy Thursday to everyone!
THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our online silent auction this past weekend! We raised $2,117! This money will go towards our Giving Hearts Day Matching Fund.
Giving Hearts Day is February 13, 2025! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year!
We have added information about Giving Hearts Day on our website. You can learn more about Giving Hearts Day and our SW North Dakota Area Collaborative here: https://chwha.org/giving-hearts-day/
We have set a Giving Hearts Day goal of $10,000! That means we need to raise $5,000 in matching funds! We are close! To date, we have raised $4,143.00 toward our matching fund’s goal. You can help us reach our goal by making your tax-deductible donation here: https://secure.everyaction.com/KrELigjJckyX7vqDTjTdzg2
The money we are hoping to raise for Giving Hearts Day will go to help us with the expenses associated with state and federal legislation to protect the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The park showed us clearly with the wild horse roundup in October why these horses need state and federal protection. As a reminder, no other organizations are helping us in wany way, including financially, with this critical advocacy work.
The 2025 North Dakota Legislative Session runs from 1/7-5/2/2025! Remember: Our ND legislators are ONLY in session for 80 days every two years! That is why the state legislation is so critical!
We are still waiting for legal counsel to assign a bill number to the first piece of legislation we submitted. Holly is also working on our 2nd piece of legislation for the North Dakota 2025 Legislative Session. We will be handing that off to our legislators soon! We are hoping to have updates for you on both of these in the next week or so!
There is a lot that goes into the legislative process. It may be quiet here from time to time, but please know we are always working on something! The legislative process is a lot of work. That work mainly comes from meetings with our legislators to discuss sponsors and co-sponsors as well as work out details so that we are all in agreement with and happy with the final bill that is presented this session.
We also continue to communicate with Senator Hoeven’s office to keep him updated with things like our meetings with the park, and the ND Legislative process.
I spoke with our Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce, and they will be holding the “Coffee with the Legislators” again this year! The first date is January 11th! They will be held every-other week this year. We look forward to the start of the legislative session and working with our state legislators to help protect the wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home. We will share links as they are made available.
Just a reminder – TOMORROW is the last day to send an email to Governor Doug Burgum thanking him for all of his help and support. His last day as North Dakota Governor is Saturday, December 14th. You can send your email to him here: https://secure.everyaction.com/noLyGxPpc0ulPB5YtT45FA2
In addition to North Dakota state legislation, Heather from Save Our Wild Horses and I spent the last couple of weeks in virtual meetings with Congressional offices that we could not meet with in person while we were in Washington DC. We have had some really great meetings and have received some good feedback. We have an exciting update to share next week!
Thank you for your continued support and have a great day!
