“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Hello everyone!
Thank you to everyone who did decided to put their concerns about the wild horses of Theodore Roosevelt National Park into action this week! Special thanks to those of you who found a few short minutes in your day to do your civic duty to help them by submitting written testimony for SCR 4006 and SB 2331.
The Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted 7-0 on a “DO PASS” for SCR 4006! It will now move to the Senate floor early next week for a full vote. If it passes the floor vote, it will move to the House in a few weeks when we have “crossover” and we will have to testify in person on the House side and then it will have a full floor vote in the House.
Unfortunately, SB 2331 did NOT have the same fate!
The State and Local Government Committee voted 4-2 on a “DO NOT PASS” for SB 2331!
In spite of that vote – the bill will STILL move to the full senate floor for a vote early next week!
How you can help:
We need EVERYONE we can who lives IN NORTH DAKOTA to take this one click action and contact their local senators asking that they vote “YES” on SB 2331. You can take this one click action here: https://secure.everyaction.com/SjddRw3YAEqfhttddUiopg2
The North Dakota Senate CAN STILL pass this – even though the committee gave it a “DO NOT PASS” vote!
They will NOT vote that way unless we tell them to!
Time is of the essence! We will know later today, but the Senate is expected to vote on BOTH of these more than likely either Monday or Tuesday!
Over 150 people submitted testimony ALL IN FAVOR of SB 2331!
We need to let our North Dakota legislators know!
We are also running full page Op-Eds in the Bismarck Tribune on Saturday and Monday.
While this Call to Action is just for North Dakota residents, EVERYONE can help by sending a Letter to the Editor to our North Dakota newspapers letting them know that SB 2331 MUST pass!
The following are some contacts for our North Dakota newspapers:
https://bismarcktribune.com/forms/contact/letter_to_the_editor/ The Fargo Forum: https://www.inforum.com/letters-to-the-editor-and-guest-column-guidelines The Dickinson Press: https://www.thedickinsonpress.com/letters-to-the-editor-and-guest-column-guidelines The Jamestown Sun: https://www.jamestownsun.com/letters-to-the-editor-and-guest-column-guidelines The Grand Forks Herald: https://www.grandforksherald.com/letters-to-the-editor-and-guest-column-guidelines The North Dakota Monitor: https://northdakotamonitor.com/commentary-submission-guidelines/
The LOUDER we are – the harder we are to ignore!!!
What’s at stake?
If this does not pass the North Dakota Senate next week, we cannot bring this legislation forward again until 2027. That also means that a working group that does not exist (if SB 2331 does not pass) CANNOT be named as the group the park has to work with in federal legislation. That puts a serious wrinkle in federal legislation.
If anyone has questions, feel free to contact us at info@chwha.org
Please share this information with your North Dakota friends and family.
We will keep you updated as we hear more.
It’s not over yet – so let’s make sure we are doing all we can to make sure we don’t leave any stones unturned as we continue to fight for these iconic wild horses.
For anyone who wants to watch today’s testimony of SB 2331, you can view it here: https://video.ndlegis.gov/en/PowerBrowser/PowerBrowserV2/20250207/-1/32863
