How are you doing?

Hello and happy Thursday to everyone!

I wanted to take a moment and simply ask – How are you doing?

I hear from many of you via email and I know many of you are not happy with many things happening in our world today, no matter what your political affiliation is.

For me personally, I feel like the world is on fire and we are over here trying to make sure that 200 wild horses FINALLY get managed properly.

From the threat of public lands being sold, the scare of WWIII, wild horse round up season getting ready to start and non-stop news that seems to change moment by moment, being a human is quite exhausting these days!

On top of all that, pneumonia round two has entered my life.  I am hopefully on my final upswing to get over this (again).  Cross everything and send some positive thoughts and prayers if you can.

I try to find inspiration every day.  I was listening to a podcast recently and I had to stop and jot down what the speaker was saying because it was so inspiring to me.  I won’t say who the speaker was but will simply ask that you read the words.  My hope is that it resonates with you as it did for me and maybe you find some inspiration and hope in these words as well.

I started our blog earlier this week with the opening quote.  Today I will type out the rest of what was said.

Be sure to take care of yourself.  Remember to breathe.  Remember what is important.

There are so many issues being fought right now.  Our issue to fight is for wild horses and burros.  We have to keep moving forward.  Take a break as you need to.  Just make sure you come back!  These amazing animals need us now more than ever!

“That better story of America is alive and well and it is in the hearts and minds of people everywhere.  If we are willing to attach ourselves to that better story in our own individual lives, in our communities, in our business, our law firms, universities, in our places of worship, then I think the good will win.

It is important to be impatient with injustice and cruelty and there is a healthy outrage that we should be exhibiting in terms of what is currently happening here and around the world but if you want to deliver on change then it’s a game of addition not subtraction.  Which means you have to find ways to make common ground with people who don’t agree with you on everything but agree with you on something.

Part of being a community and part of learning from each other is that even the people we agree with, we don’t agree with 100% of the time.  People are complicated and unique, and they have their own stories.

I’m not crazy about your position on “X” but man, don’t you agree on “Y”.  Let’s work on that for a while.

That I think is where you start seeing hope.

When people actually meet and get to know each other and they work on a common endeavor then what Lincoln called those better angels come out.

People start recognizing themselves in each other. And they start trusting each other.  That’s not just the basis for our democracy but the basis for our long-term salvation.”

A few reminders:
