TRNP and Wyoming Updates/NEW CTA

Hello again!

Earlier today I shared a quote by Mel Robbins.  I want to share the rest of that quote with you here:

“All it takes is one person to do the right thing and if it bothers you enough, THAT PERSON IS YOU!

Something can always be done.  You CAN make a difference.

And, if it doesn’t matter enough for you to get involved, then stop complaining about it.  It just stresses you out and as you are learning, that’s dumb.

Talk is cheap.  If it really bothers you, dedicate some time and energy to changing it.”

~ Mel Robbins

I love this quote!  It is straight forward and to the point.  I keep saying that it’s beyond time for all of us to stop simply complaining about what is happening to our wild horses and burros and take action.

I get emails and have zoom meetings with other advocates quite often asking how we saved the TRNP wild horses and asking for time to brainstorm on how they and apply that to their own areas.  I always make time for fellow advocates, especially those who were there for us when we needed them.

The first thing I always say is we haven’t saved these horses – yet.  We stopped them from being completely removed from the boundaries of the park, but there are still questionable management practices that threaten their future.  Our work to help the TRNP wild horses is not over.  I believe there will always be a need to advocate for these horses.  We have been doing just that.

We had a meeting with the Department of the Interior over a month ago.  We will be following up on that this week and are excited to hear what Secretary Burgum has to say about our concerns.

We had a great meeting with Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s new Superintendent, Rachel Daniels, a few weeks ago.  We continue to communicate with her.  She stopped in our shop over the weekend, and we had a quick chat with her.

Thank you to everyone who sent us messages about Theodore Roosevelt National Park’s post about the horses last week!  Also, thanks to those of you who went to their Facebook page and let them know how much you appreciated the post! In case you missed it, you can find the post here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1MsKGYfyf8/ I shared your excitement with Superintendent Daniels when she stopped in our store this past weekend.  She was happy to hear that it meant so much to so many of you.  She said that she told her staff she is not going to move forward pretending that the horses don’t exist.    They are part of the park and are not going anywhere anytime soon.  You should also see a shift in communication in the visitor’s center with park staff about the horses.  We are thankful for these continued small steps forward by our new superintendent toward our wild horses.

We look forward to continuing to work with Superintendent Daniels and her staff as she settles into her new role and also as Senator Hoeven’s legislation moves forward through Congress.

Monday, we had a meeting with a staff member from The Problem Solver’s Caucus.  This also will be an exciting new opportunity for us as Hoeven’s legislation moves through Congress.  It is a new way to connect and lobby our members of Congress.  I look forward to continuing to work with this caucus! We will discuss this more when we talk about Senator Hoeven’s legislation.

This week, we also sent our petition asking for help with Wyoming’s Checkerboard herds to Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, Secretary Doug Burgum and President Donald Trump.  Our petition was able to get just under 6,000 signatures in a few short weeks!  THANK YOU! We also added some of our beautifully colored pages from our Coloring Campaign to the packets for each office.

Now we need your help to amplify these packets!

The Salt Wells Creek round up has been pushed back, but the Adobe Town round up is scheduled to begin on 7/15.  That doesn’t give us a lot of time to change things!

We are asking that you CALL the following numbers, every day if you can, and ask that these roundups be stopped!  When you call the Wyoming Governor’s office, if you are NOT a resident of Wyoming, please make sure you let them know that if the wild horses are eliminated from the Checkerboard areas, that you will not be visiting Wyoming in the future!  These calls can also be made from people outside of the US!

Here are the numbers to call, as always PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL:

Governor Mark Gordon: 307-777-7434

Secretary Burgum: 202-208-3100 (press 0 and leave your message with your call back info please note – this doesn’t seem to always work.  You can also press 4 for the BLM and then 3 for wild horse and burros and leave your message there.)

President Trump/White House switchboard: 202-456-1111 (10 – 3 EST Monday – Thursday)

Our easy Calls to Action for the Checkerboard herds are also still active.  You can send emails every day!  You do not have to be a US resident to take most of these actions:

  1. Contact your own members of Congress and educate them on this issue!  This is ESPECIALLY TRUE if you are a resident of Wyoming!  We created a one-click Call to Action that will email your legislators directly.  We also strongly suggest that you also CALL your legislators directly.  You can do ALL of these Calls to Action EVERY DAY! You can take this one click action here: https://secure.everyaction.com/GwZbUw4vr0ulNtzoZ7mOjw2
  2. We have a list of Wyoming state and federal legislators for you in our blog: CALL TO ACTION – PLEASE HELP WYOMING’S WILD HORSES! – CHWHA.  We also have a one click email action you can take.  We are urging you to DO BOTH!!!
  3. Please email Wyoming’s state and federal legislators.  Again, this is even more important if you are a resident of Wyoming. We have listed phone numbers for Wyoming’s legislators below and have also created a one-click email: https://secure.everyaction.com/pMzBUGAfOEOKxYvYE0QnFg2  AGAIN, we are urging everyone to DO BOTH!

You can also learn more about our Coloring Campaign here: Coloring Campaign – CHWHA

The response to this campaign has been incredible!  We just had another 1100 coloring pages printed!  We expect the summer in Medora to stay busy!  If you are able to help us with printing and mailing costs, you can make your tax-deductible donation to CHWHA here: https://secure.everyaction.com/wnK6YjHlTkCC2Aq57_7srQ2

In case you missed it, we are partnering with our friends at Oregon Wild Horse Organization to speak up for the Muddy Creek wild horses.  You can take this one click Call to Action here: https://secure.everyaction.com/2BRiIhhoUEmULWIvCXPS9w2

Many of you have also asked how me and my mom are doing.  I am starting to feel better (again) but have been taking it easy, as many of you, and my doctor, have suggested.  I have a lot of catch up to do for sure so please be patient as I slowly get back into the swing of things!  My mom is doing well.  We have a lot of follow-up appointments we have been going to as we continue to do what is best for her health.  Thank you again for your warm thoughts, prayers and well wishes!

Thank you for your continued support and have a great week!
