S1377 – Call to Action #4

chwildhorseadvocates Avatar

Hello again!

As promised, we have ONE more Call to Action for you!

In case you are just seeing this, we have posted a series of blogs today because S1377, The Theodore Roosevelt National Park Wild Horse Protection Act will have a Congressional hearing on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.  We have posted additional blogs today and will share links to the other Calls to Action at the end of this blog.

The last thing we are going to ask you to do, as an advocate for the TRNP wild horses, is to take a moment to write a letter to the editor for one of North Dakota’s newspapers.

Here are a couple of points to note:

  1. Most papers have a word requirement, please check with each individual paper.
  2. You DO NOT have to be a resident of ND to send a letter to the editor
  3. Be factual in your letter
  4. Name our legislators – Senator John Hoeven – Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak.  IT MATTERS!

Some examples:

Your letter can thank Senator Hoeven for introducing S1377.  Then mention that it does not go far enough to protect the horses.

Thank Congresswoman Fedorchak for carrying the legislation in the House.  Ask her to reconsider submitting the requested amendments to the Committee.

Talk about the part of the legislation that concerns you the most.  Some examples may be:

  1. The legislation does NOT address concerns about the aggressive use of fertility control
  2. The legislation does NOT specify WHICH 150 horses should remain in the park.
  3. The legislation does NOT require the Park to partner with an organization to help manage the horses and provide oversight.
  4. The legislation does NOT give enough time for a proper management plan to be created that takes science and public input into consideration as per current NEPA laws.

Make sure you clearly define the purpose of your letter.  It should usually be 1-2 paragraphs.  End with a way the reader can help – i.e. you can find easy Calls to Action on the CHWHA website at www.chwha.org

Here are a few links to some of North Dakota’s newspapers:
