Hello and Happy Friday to everyone!
We have had several questions about North Dakota Senate Concurrent Resolution SCR 4014 so we thought we would address them in one email.
Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates has been working with our North Dakota legislators since December asking them to draft a resolution asking the National Park Service and our federally elected officials to keep the wild horses IN Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We also had “Calls to Action” where we asked all of you to help contact our North Dakota legislators.
ALL of you did a GREAT job!
North Dakota Senate Concurrent Resolution SCR 4014 was born from YOUR calls and emails!!!
On February 16, 2023, the North Dakota State Senate voted UNANIMOUSLY to pass SCR 4014!
What happens now?
NOW SCR 4014 moves to the North Dakota House. There will be an opportunity for testimony and a vote from the North Dakota House members.
THEN the resolution will go to the North Dakota Secretary of State who is responsible for distributing the resolution as communicated in the document.
It is quite exciting to watch this go from phone calls being made to having the opportunity to testify before our state legislators on the importance of this resolution and the wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home to the resolution passing UNANIMOUSLY in the ND Senate and now moving onto the ND House!
We know many people were frustrated with having to create a PDF file for the North Dakota legislative website. Since there will be testimony again for the North Dakota House, Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates has found a way for you to get your comments entered into the official testimony for SCR 4014 when it comes up for comment in the ND House.
You can click on this link (https://secure.everyaction.com/UjcKwEYRSkO-TDc6OfAXMQ2) that will take you to an Action page we set up. You can add your comment there and when it is time to go to the Capitol again, we will print out all of your comments and bring them with us!
We will also let you know as soon as we hear when the North Dakota House will be accepting testimony and when their hearing on SCR 4014 will be. You can also follow the progress of SCR 4014 here: https://ndlegis.gov/assembly/68-2023/regular/bill-overview/bo4014.html?bill_year=2023&bill_number=4014
We have also added a NEW “Calls to Action” tab on our website (https://chwha.org/calls-to-action/). We will have NEW “Calls to Action” coming and this will be an easy way to access them. This came from requests by all of you – so please let us know what else we can do to help make advocating for the wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home easier!
Thank you again for your support! Please share our posts and consider making a donation to help support our advocacy work.
Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates is committed to advocating for a wild horse management plan and protection for these unique wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home! We are fighting for a management plan that is guided by science especially when it comes to decisions regarding the removal of horses and the administration of birth control. Many other wild horse management plans have proven to be successful with their science-based plans. We are asking for the same for this amazing group of wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home.
Thank you all who have come to the aid and help in continuous help in protecting our beautiful wild horses. Please continue to be their voices in this matter.
This is so awesome, we need to save the Wild Horses, they belong in the park.
It would be a shame to remove the wild horses from the park. They have lived there…wild and free. They are a great attraction to the park. When I was a young girl living in Medora My favorite thing was to see the wild and beautiful horses
A Victory for our beloved Wild Horses of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park! ❤️
Thank you Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates for advocating for a wild horse management plan and protection for these unique wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home!
A huge thank you to all of the people who made phone calls and sent emails to save these magnificent horses.
And thank you to the North Dakota Senators who unanimously passed SCR 4014!
Now, on to the House!
