Hello and Happy Tuesday!

We have had such a PHENOMINAL response to the article that was featured on the FRONT PAGE of the Wall Street Journal! Our social media pages all have an abundance of new followers, our website has new people following and we got some REALLY sweet new followers on Instagram! Welcome to all of our new followers! It is GREAT to have so many new people joining us in our fight to save these amazing wild horses!

I have received countless emails and PM’s from people everywhere who are so excited about the article.

We gave you some Calls to Action in our blog posts this week. Have you done them?

Paul Hedren did! He took time to send an email to The Wall Street Journal, saying he “seized the moment to speak out again!”

Paul is a former NPS Superintendent and an ally in our fight.

Here is Paul’s letter to Joe:

Dear Joseph Barrett,

A quick note of thanks for that fine story on the Theodore Roosevelt horses. I am among the perhaps countless advocates for those fine animals and was among those taking the time to voice my opinion on this recent NPS-rooted quandary. As you point out and as did so many of the voices in your story, those horses belong in the park. Today’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park was established first as a Memorial Park, honoring Roosevelt and his ties to the North Dakota badlands. Those were ranching ties, of course, and the park service (mostly) does justice to that legacy…jealously protecting a cabin in Medora and the Elkhorn ranch site. But a quintessential dimension of ranching was horses, and here we have the living remnants of that legacy, and remnants moreover with the living legacy of Indian horse blood in them…and well traced I should note. NPS doesn’t get to pick and choose which dimensions or elements of a park it wishes to preserve, it’s legally burdened to embrace them all.

I am ex-NPS myself, a historian and superintendent, with thirteen fine years of service at one of TR’s satellite parks. NPS brings this burden on themselves as management changes and documents get renewed. They’ll see the light on this one. The horses will survive. But it’s always a shame that they periodically come so close to elimination. Indeed, shame on NPS.

We hope that you can see by Superintendent Richman’s comments to Joe, this fight is far from over! The Park is staying the course and plan to eliminate at least 150 of the 200 wild horses from the Park OR EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!
