Hello and Happy Friday!
The whispers about Superintendent Richman’s departure from Theodore Roosevelt National Park are getting louder. We have yet to see any formal press release about this.
Word on the street is that she will be leaving the National Park Service (NPS) entirely next week and taking a job at a state park in New Mexico.
Is it true?
We should know next week.
I want to reiterate again that it doesn’t matter who the superintendent or any other staff members at TRNP if the NPS policies don’t change.
THAT is what we are working hardest on!
Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates sees a federal agency filled with secrecy and an unwillingness to work with the public. This has to change. The wild horses that call the park home are counting on us to change things.
How are we doing that?
Tuesday, we will be attending both the Billings County Commission and Medora City Council meeting. Since our state legislators are not in session until January, we are asking both to send a resolution to our federal legislators. Part of what we are asking for is that we have a Superintendent and a Chief of Resource Management assigned to Theodore Roosevelt National Park that are willing to work with the community. This is incredibly important as decisions made by the park directly impact small businesses in the area and across the state of North Dakota.
We are also working with Bice Policy Group on some legislation that we hope will be introduced in the 2025 North Dakota Legislative Session. We are not the only ones excited about this! Our state legislators are too! We will share more on this as it develops but we promise you will be just as excited as we are about this one!
We believe that what we are working on at a state level will also help with our ultimate goal of getting federal protection for this herd.
We want to remind you that when you see us asking for donations, it is so that we can pay bills we have like to Bice Policy group. No other wild horse advocacy groups are working with us to meet these critical goals. We have asked and our requests have been denied, or to be fair, we have been waiting months for a response that we have not received. Please consider making a donation to help us meet these goals. The state and federal legislation we are working on comes with a price tag of about $20,000-$40,000! You can make your tax-deductible donation here: https://secure.everyaction.com/cBmDbRA6cUuzERpShcQOCg2
What we are working on at a state and federal level is the ONLY way to make sure we do not repeat the attempts to remove these horses from the park, like we did these last two years. What we just experienced with Stallion Alluvium shows us that nothing has changed with the management plans for this herd by TRNP!
My plan next week is to start talking about what else is happening at CHWHA. Our fight for Alluvium deterred those talks but things have still been happening in the background! We can’t wait to share details with you soon!
Thank you for your support and have a great weekend!
