Down to the wire

Hello and Happy Monday to everyone!

We spent the weekend emailing and calling all of our North Dakota senators. Today we will spend the afternoon at the ND Capitol trying to get in front of as many of them as possible with one last plea for them to vote yes on SB 2331 AND SCR 4006.

We will also be on the Jay Thomas Show and will speak with any other members of the press that are able to talk to us today. We also have our full-page Op-Ed running again in the Bismarck Tribune.

TOMORROW we will be at Dickinson State University for a Giving Hearts Day event where we can talk about this face to face with students and faculty.  We are hoping this can be impactful BEFORE SB 2331 goes for a vote.  The vote for SB 2331 is NOT scheduled yet and it is NOT on today’s agenda.  It is possible that the amendment will be voted on Tuesday and the full bill on Wednesday.  We are hoping that is how it works but it CAN still go for a full vote Tuesday.  That is why we need everyone’s help TODAY to do what you can to help get SB 2331 passed!

Many of you have asked what you can do.

The #1 thing is to get as many North Dakotans to contact their legislators as possible.  We have a one click form that will send an email to your legislator: https://secure.everyaction.com/SjddRw3YAEqfhttddUiopg2

For those of you out of state, you are also welcome to send your personal emails to our legislators asking that they pass this.  You can download the list of ND Senators and their contact information here:

Once again, the legislators we HAVE heard from are:

On our countdown to 24, following are the ND Senators that have either told us personally or have told one of our followers that they will vote “Yes” to SB 2331:

  1. Josh Boschee (Sponsor of SB 2331)
  2. Ryan Braunberger
  3. Kathy Hogan
  4. Greg Kessel (he is a co-sponsor of SB 2331 we are assuming he will vote yes!)
  5. Dean Rummel (he is a co-sponsor of SB 2331 we are assuming he will vote yes!)
  6. Donald Schaible – I spoke with him in person today at the Coffee with the Legislators – he promised he would vote YES
  7. Chuck Walen
  8. Tim Mathern

Senators I have talked to that are currently undecided:

  1. Senator Boehm
  2. Senator Conley
  3. Senator Patten
  4. Senator Wanzek
  5. Senator Larson
  6. Senator Magrum

The No’s:

  1. Jeff Barta (voted NO as a member of the State and Local Government Committee)
  2. Jose Castaneda (voted NO as a member of the State and Local Government Committee)
  3. Judy Lee (voted NO as a member of the State and Local Government Committee)
  4. Kristin Roers (voted NO as a member of the State and Local Government Committee)
  5. Kyle Davison will vote NO (as the committee recommended) and stated he is tired of the conversation

We also suggested in our emails over the weekend that you write letters to the editor to our local papers.  Many of those were printed so THANK YOU to everyone who sent those in. Please see our previous emails for more information.

If you have other suggestions, or if you hear back from your legislator, please email us at info@chwha.org and let us know.

Thank you for your support and have a great day!
