Happy Birthday Annie!

Hello and Happy Wednesday!

Today is a special day – it is Velma Johnson – aka Wild Horse Annie’s birthday!

There are many great books that have been written about this amazing woman.  As you read the books, you will see that she was a normal person – just like you and me.  In fact, she contracted polio in 1923 and was confined to a cast for six months.  The cast deformed her body and face which her opponents used against her.

She had her struggles, but she persisted.  She was passionate about the fair treatment of wild horses and burros.  Her passion fueled her and she stayed consistent and persistent to her fight.

There are several wonderful books that have been written about Velma Johnson.  I encourage you to read them!  You will see that she was engaged in a fight similar to the ones we are today as wild horse and burro advocates.

The best way to honor her today is to use your voice to take action for our wild horses and burros!

The biggest way to speak up is to contact your federal legislators.  You should also be contacting your state legislators if you live in a state that is home to wild horse and burro herds.

We have several open action items that you can take today!  You only need to sign a petition once, emails can be sent as often as you like!

Thank you for taking a moment to honor this amazing woman by raising your voice for our wild horses and burros! These actions will literally take you seconds to complete!

You can also send your members of Congress your own personal message!  You can find your members of Congress here: https://www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member

Once you do the actions listed below, please ask your friends and family members to take a moment to take action!
