“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” – C.S. Lewis
Hello and Happy Friday to everyone!
Today, we wanted to share some details from a very exciting meeting we had yesterday.
When we had our meeting with the Department of the Interior a few weeks ago, at the end of the meeting, we asked Regional Director Bert Frost how we can start to work together? We let him know that Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates is not going anywhere – so in light of that, we asked, how do we start to work together? He suggested that we reach out to the current TRNP Acting Superintendent, Rachel Daniels.
So, we did.
Last night, Superintendent Daniels and I had a very nice meeting at a local restaurant. We spent over 2 hours discussing both our concerns and possible solutions.
We feel that Superintendent Daniels was very receptive to our concerns. She has to discuss things with her staff and superiors, but I do have faith that she will come back to the table again for more constructive talks.
What did we talk about?
Everything from the “livestock” classification that drove the park’s latest removal attempt to informing her about how little the public, including all of you and many of our state legislators, trust the park. We also discussed ways that they can begin to regain that trust. We talked about everything from the collars to GonaCon concerns and everything in between.
She also seemed to understand that even with our organization, trust will take time.
I shared with her that someone recently attempted to attack me by saying that I had become “complacent with the government”. She laughed and said I could go to sleep tonight knowing that nothing could be further from the truth from their view.
I consider that a high compliment.
There is much more that was talked about over the 2 hours. We will give the superintendent the opportunity to share the things we brought to the table with her staff and superiors and promise to share any responses we get when we meet with her again.
As always, thank you for your continued support and enjoy your weekend!
