Hello and Happy Thursday to everyone!
I personally had a very long and passionate phone call with Senator Hoeven’s office today. S1377 – The Theodore Roosevelt National Park Wild Horse Protection Act DID pass the Energy & Natural Resources Committee yesterday, for which we are very thankful. The version of the legislation that passed went through WITHOUT any of our requested amendments.
I asked for clarification on how the committee and Senator Hoeven’s office seemed to ignore the 15,000+ emails that were sent by all of us, along with the support of 27 different groups and organizations, requesting our amendments.
His office explained that it was very important to get this legislation passed out of the committee. An opportunity came up to have the committee hear it and it was not clear when the next opportunity for a committee hearing would present itself.
That being said, this is not the end of our request for amendments!
Senator Hoeven’s office gave us some pretty clear direction on how to get our amendments included in the legislation that the full Senate will vote on. I personally have been working non-stop on that all day today.
THANK YOU to each and every one of you responsible for those 15,000 emails that were sent! Don’t ever doubt that a small group of concerned citizens can make a difference! We have proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt in the past! I hope you will join me as I believe we will continue to create much needed positive change for these historic wild horses that call Theodore Roosevelt National Park home!
