Updates for the week: Freedom & Liberty

Hello and Happy Sunday to everyone!

We have been talking about a 4th of July event that we have been invited to and we are ready to share some of those details with you!

The Bureau of Land Management is celebrating America 250 by touring the US with a horse named Freedom and a burro named Liberty.  You can learn more about this tour on their website: https://www.blm.gov/programs/wild-horse-and-burro/freedom-and-liberty

A few details:

Freedom is an 8-year-old sorrel gelding from the Salt Wells Creek Herd Management Area near Rock Springs, WY. When he was younger, Freedom and his wingman were trying to spark romance with some mares on a local ranch outside of the herd management area boundary, so the BLM was contacted to pick them up.

Liberty is a 17-year-old gray gelding from Cibola-Trigo Herd Management Area near Yuma, AZ. Like Freedom, Liberty was also gathered outside of the herd management area boundary when his jenny found a local lettuce field to snack in. Liberty was gathered with a baited trap several weeks later.

Also from the website: With their handler, BLM Wild Horse and Burro Specialist June, Freedom and Liberty are traveling across America to connect communities with the landscapes, history, and ideals that shaped our country and continue to define our public lands.

This is one of the collaborations we discussed with Superintendent Daniels when we met with her last month.  Chasing Horses Wild Horse Advocates has been invited to be part of the event.  Of course, we said yes!  What an awesome opportunity to talk about our wild horses and burros and specifically share updates about the TRNP wild horse herd!

ALL happening IN 2026 – The Year of the Fire Horse!!!

We need your help to make this event a success!

We have created special pins for giveaways for this event and also have a couple different crafts for kids.  We also want to create new coloring pages for this event and the season.  In addition to the fun part, we need promotional materials to pass out to help educate the public.

We are also working to get donations for light snacks for the event.

Can you help make this 3-day event a success?

You can make your tax-deductible donation to support this event specifically here: https://secure.everyaction.com/0gcZkMjeAkmt_zfGj9gnvQ2

Donations can also be made through PayPal here: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=XNYNCNVLTULGC

We think this is an awesome opportunity to speak up for our wild horses and burros and we are excited to be part of it!  What an awesome way to participate in events for BOTH America’s 250th birthday AND honor The Year of the Fire Horse by celebrating our wild horses and burros!

With the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library on July 4th traffic is expected to be increased in Medora during those days so we really have a unique opportunity to educate a massive amount of people in these 3 short days!

If you are interested in volunteering at our booth, please email us at info@chwha.org.

We will share the times we will be at our booth for the event as well as other programming the park will be holding as soon as we have those details worked out!

As always, thank you for your continued support and have a great week!
