Hello and Happy Thursday!

We apologize for our silence; we have been very busy working on the Theodore Roosevelt National Park Wild Horse Protection Act.  We are trying hard to get the legislation amended in the House version of the bill.

We have been having meetings with members of Congress, including Senator Hoeven’s office to make them aware of the legislation, the amendments we are asking for and why.

It is important to remember that while we currently are working on rebuilding a relationship with Theodore Roosevelt National Park, have an active US Senator working on legislation and have our former governor as Secretary of the Interior, we can guarantee that we will NOT always have these people working with us for what is best for the horses. 

History shows us that the National Park Service, and Theodore Roosevelt National Park specifically, have a long history of trying to eliminate these horses from the park.  Who is to say that when these people who are helping hold the line to keep the horses in the park are gone that the park will not resort back to trying to eliminate the horses?  If you need a reminder about the attempts to eliminate the horses, please read Dr. Castle McLaughlin’s report on the horses.  You can find a copy of that report in the Research Library section of our website: https://chwha.org/library/

When we are talking about creating a law to protect the horses, that law should do just that – PROTECT THE HORSES.  This legislation, as it is written, leaves too many loopholes the park can use to hurt the horses.

What good is the legislation if it doesn’t actually protect the horses it was written to protect?

Not all laws are good and we stand firm in our belief that the legislation that passed the Senate is not the best piece of legislation we can get for these historic wild horses.  The horses deserve better!

We have been holding meetings with Congress and will continue over the next few weeks.  We PROMISE the Calls to Action are coming for all of you.  Remember, timing is everything!  When the time is right, we will let you know how you can help!
